“For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor. THE MIGHY GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9: 6)

This is a quote from one of God’s prophets in the old testament of the Bible- prophet Isaiah. By inspiration, he made this statement about the person of Jesus Christ. He called Him “The Mighty God”.

I am aware of the fact that there are many controversies concerning this topic even amongst self-confessed Christians. Some Christians still believe Jesus is not God! They believe Jesus is just a prophet who came to the world to deliver God’s message and that is all to it.

However, Jesus came as God’s servant to do the work of redemption here on the earth; I believe strongly that there is something more about Jesus Christ. I took my search to the Bible for information and I was glad when I discovered prophet Isaiah’s statement quoted above.

The Divine Plan

I wanted more facts and the Holy Spirit was just very much ready to supply more.

After the fall of man in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:23), God knew it would be difficult for Him to have a decent relationship with man. Man has failed Him. The righteousness of man is incapable of making him relate with God. However, God really desired not just a relationship with man; He wanted to make the inside of man His dwelling place! Man is sinful by nature (Genesis 6:5) and a sinful man cannot relate with a Holy God.

So the divine plan (which had been in God’s plan even before the creation of the world) came up for execution- there must be a holy, sinless Vessel that must stand between a Holy God and the sinful man for there to be a relationship.

God searched for that Holy Vessel in all of heaven, He found none! However, God’s purpose of relating with sinful man cannot stop because of the non-availability of this Holy Vessel.

“There is none holy as the LORD…” (1 Samuel 2:2)

Since God is holy Himself, then He must come to act as this Holy Vessel! Now, God is a God of order, if no other vessel is qualified for this divine plan and He must come to act as this Holy Vessel, then He must come as Jesus Christ. I am not surprised that one of the names of Jesus is Emmanuel- God with us (Matthew 1:23) (Isaiah 7:14). I am also not surprised that the angel of the Lord commanded Joseph to name the unborn child in the womb of his espoused wife Jesus.
