Sometimes, you will need to learn how to forget the past and focus on the future. That was the theme of my strong message to a good online friend some days ago.

Forgetting the past and moving on is very important of you someone who has had to face a turbulent period at any point in your life. Not doing this will bring further challenges that you will not be able to handle.

I am presenting my full message to this friend who I love to interact with his sports page on the social media. In case you want to know, I love sports. I love football. So this guy presents good football news and entertainment on the social media so I just got stuck with his page.

Background information to the forget the past and focus on the future message

Let me quickly give you the background information behind my message of forget the past and focus on the future to my online friend.

This friend of mine, apart from using his page to give out good sporting information, also uses the Facebook page to offer good counsel to those who are involved in any form of addiction.

He was a victim of gambling addiction himself and he has overcome it. He uses his experience to offer useful help to those who are still going through one form of addiction or the other.

In one of his posts, he, again, narrated how the addiction problem made him lose access to a Visa and also also to lady friend he had dated for five years. I noticed deep regrets in his contents especially the aspect of losing such relationship that he felt should have led to marriage.

Well, I was inspired to swing into action and to offer a heartfelt message to him on why he has to forget the past and focus on the future. I am presenting my message to him below unedited and I believe this will greatly help you too.

Forget things that are behind: my message

How are you my friend. I have followed your page for sometime now. I have seen how passionate you are about sports. I love it. If I am not doing what I am doing today, I would have done sports journalism or football journalism like you are doing today.

Let me also add that I have also read stories about your gambling addiction. I’m sorry for all you have lost. Painful but I thank God for the fact that you’re alive today. Glory to God almighty.

Losing a relationship because of addiction

Now, I just read about how painful it is to lose a relationship especially to a lady you cherished so much. I understand your pains. I really understand. But …

Just before I share the next part of the but statement above, let me share my story with you. I hope it will greatly help you.

My painful story of the past

You lost relationship. A lady left you while in a courtship. But I lost a wife! She went to be with the Lord. We were married for eighteen years – so painful! So painful!

It happened on October 4, 2024.

She died after a brief illness. She died on the day she was discharged from the hospital.

Hmmm! She left me and our three young children. The news of her death shook me and took lots of strength out of me.

On the day she was buried, I watched, with pains, how our daughters especially the youngest, who probably did not really know her late mum very well, cried their hearts out.

The truth that struck me about forgetting the past

Well, something also struck me on that day apart from the shock of her death.

Let me tell you what struck me.

Reality and the truth!

Reality in the sense that she is now gone – never to come back again and I just have to be strong because of our children.

Then the truth also struck me. I have to dig deep into the spiritual strength I had stored up before that period. The Bible says if you faint in the days of adversity how small is your strength.

I couldn’t study the Bible and I couldn’t pray. But I dug deep into the revelation I have seen and discovered over the years.

I rose in the night to praise God. Because I knew already that God can never be blamed. I danced and praised Him. I knew that those who praise Him will not miss it. As I praised Him, strength began to appear. I began to see and remember more revelation and truth.

Another truth

Then another truth that struck me was that I already knew that my life exist for a reason – the ministry He has committed into my hands.

I remembered God once told me that destinies are connected to my destiny and I must not fail them. And I know that when God says something it’s settled.

I rose and took a decision to be strong because what God has given to me is needed by someone who is still alive but who needs it to stay alive.

She was gone and there was nothing I could do about it but that person is still alive and I have to rise and give out what He has given to me so that that person can stay alive. So that that person can stay strong in the Lord.

Put the past behind you

I write to you today. There is more to your life. Put the past behind you. It’s tough but it’s possible. With God all things are possible.

You have to do it with God. After all Mary, the virgin did it with God and she conceived. The reason the Angel said to her that she could do it with God.

Luke 1:37

[37]For with God nothing will be impossible.”

Let that thought and that mind be in you every day.. Destinies are attached to you. They are waiting to receive from you to stay alive and stay strong.

Your lady left because probably she was not qualified to do the job..This is not blaming her now. You can only stay to do what God has empowered you to do.

God will help you to forget the past by doing something new

She moved on. The truth is that God will send another one who has the grace to travel the journey with you. Yes. She is waiting. She wants to get to you..God and her are waiting for you to be ready to accept her.

So you have to bury the past. Rise to bury it. Paul said I forget things that are behind and I pressed towards the mark.

From shame to glory

Finally, my friend, three weeks after the death of my late wife, I saw a bill board advertising a church program. It reads: Yeye di AYEYE. Meaning from shame to glory.

I considered that as a message to me. I said within myself that my shame will end up turning to glory.

Today I have moved on. I just remarried. We are doing great.

I say to you too that your shame will turn to glory.

I hope the message above helped you. If it helps you, you can write to use by contacting us here
