Spiritual mentoring in the bible is all about what God says in His Word about the topic of spiritual mentoring or fatherhood.
It is about His will will concerning this very important topic or provisions from Him to help or support His children to achieve maximally in this earth.
A case of spiritual fatherhood in the bible
The following is a case of spiritual fatherhood in the bible:
Prophets to the rescue in the book of Ezra
Judah did all preparations in Ezra Chapter 3 to build the temple of God but the prophets were not involved at this stage. So in Chapter 4, evil and demonic powers stopped them. Read it below:
Ezra 4:4-5,23-24
[4]Then the people of the land tried to discourage the people of Judah. They troubled them in building, [5]and hired counselors against them to frustrate their purpose all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia. [23]Now when the copy of King Artaxerxes’ letter was read before Rehum, Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem against the Jews, and by force of arms made them cease. [24]Thus the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem ceased, and it was discontinued until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
Despite all the work, preparation, and efforts that were put into the work in Chapter 3, the evil powers caused the project to cease.

Spiritual mentoring: How prophets came into the scene
But in Ezra chapter 5, prophets came on the scene. The work started again and was completed. I want you to look at it below:
Ezra 5:1-2
[1]Then the prophet Haggai and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophets, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them. [2]So Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshua the son of Jozadak rose up and began to build the house of God which is in Jerusalem; and the prophets of God were with them, helping them.
Did you see the last part of the Bible passage above?
“And the prophets of God were with them, helping them.”
So they finished the project because the prophets came to the scene to help them. The Bible says, “They prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo.” Read it below:
Ezra 6:14-15
[14]So the elders of the Jews built, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they built and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the command of Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia. [15]Now the temple was finished on the third day of the month of Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of King Darius.
Spiritual mentors help to fulfill God’s will
Though the project was God’s commandment, they still needed the help of God-assigned prophets over them to finish the project. Prophets come with the Word of God to help your life and destiny.
Agreed, God called you. Agreed, you have a ministry. Agreed, you are gifted. Agreed, you are very hardworking. Agreed, you are a professional to the core. Most times, these are not enough! You still need the help of your God-assigned prophets.
