I want to believe you have asked the question, What is faith in God? before. Even if you have not done so, it is likely someone has asked you the same question before. It is also likely you have heard a preacher explaining what faith is all about in the past.
I believe this type of post is very necessary today as we observe in various communities the mass movement of people who once believed and walked by faith away from the Christian faith.
These surveys on beliefs monitored on their website (https://faithsurvey.co.uk/) will be useful in this regard:
My concern is that the 28% who never see any reason to pray are likely to be Christians or those who should be potential Christians. Likewise, 31% who deny the existence of hell is likely to be former Christians who moved away from the faith.
Many of them move away because they thought Christianity is not working or that the faith walk is outdated. This post is meant to help these types of people and even those who are still Christians. The Christian faith is described in a very practical and practicable form so that anyone can understand it and begin to use it effectively.
I have divided this post into sections so that you can be able to enjoy the content as you read along. So let us go ahead immediately on this faith journey.

Section 1: Introduction to the Christian Faith
Faith in God definition
If I have to do justice to this post, I believe I should start with the definition of faith and then proceed to give you all that I want to give you today on the topic of the Christian faith. The best place to pick up the definition of the Christian faith is the Word of God as we have it in the Bible. Read what the Bible says below:
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” I picked that up from the book of Hebrews 11:1. Now If you want to understand the Bible’s faith, you must love that Bible Chapter. I will tell you more about it later in this post.
That Bible passage contains important keywords that you must keep very close to your heart. Let us look at those keywords:
- substance
- things hoped for
- evidence
- things not seen
I will be coming back to those keywords from time to time while I do justice to this topic by the grace of God. I particularly love the two words: ‘substance’ and ‘evidence’ because they represent the areas where lots of Christians are missing it on the topic of faith.

Importance of faith in God
I believe this should naturally be the next area I touch in this post. What is the importance of faith? and why must you have faith in God? I can also put it this way: what is the relevance of walking by faith?
The answer is given by these important and relevant Bible passages. Let us read them below:
- “And without faith, it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6)
- “And the just shall live by his faith” ( Habakkuk 2:4)
I want you to see the relevance of those Bible passages. The first one clearly shows us that you will not be able to please God in your desire to walk with Him if you don’t walk by faith. That is very straightforward.
I believe you love God. If you don’t love Him, you will not be reading this post anyway. You need to take it to another level by walking by faith to please Him. Now pleasing Him gives you the opportunity to draw His hands of power to help you out on this earth in many ways. It will also help you to obtain His promises to you on this earth.
Those, I believe, are mouthwatering reasons why you must walk and have faith in God. I saw this interesting line from the book of Hebrews 6:12:
“So that you will not be [spiritually] sluggish, but [will instead be] imitators of those who through faith [lean on God with absolute trust and confidence in Him and in His power] and by patient endurance [even when suffering] are [now] inheriting the promises.” (AMP)
They obtained promises from God through faith. Another Bible passage in Hebrews 11: 32-33 has this:
“And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: 33 who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises…” (NKJV)
I hope you saw the same line again: “(they) obtained promises )by faith)”
The second Bible passage above in Habakkuk 2:4 shows us that the just (the Christian) will only live by his faith’. In essence, faith is supposed to be the air we breathe in for our survival as Christians. You don’t have any other way you are supposed to live but by your faith.
Let me itemize the importance of faith under this section so that you can have a quick overview of it again:
- Faith is like the air you breathe in for your survival
- You will only please God with your faith
- You will only obtain that long-overdue promises from God to you if you walk by faith
- Your miracles will not be delivered except you walk by faith
- You are supposed to walk by faith yourself because the just shall live by his faith
- You are called a believer because faith is all there is to your life as a Christian
- You will not fulfill the purpose of your existence. Of what use is your presence on this earth if you will not fulfill purpose! I hope you can remember the story of the parable of talents (Matthew 25:14-30). I am sure you remember what befell the servant who did not make use of his talent. I pray this will not be your lot in Jesus name.

The Power of faith in God
I am not just asking you to walk by faith or rather God is not just asking you to walk by faith. There is a power that comes on display when you walk by faith.
I should inform you that there is a powerplay on this earth. Everyone is flexing their muscles in one way or the other. Christians are not exempted from this game of muscle-flexing or walking in power. That is why we have been told to occupy till Jesus comes back (Luke 19:13).
[click_to_tweet tweet=”Learn about the power of faith in God. learn how you can demonstrate your faith in God to have answers to your prayers. Read more” quote=”Learn about the power of faith in God. learn how you can demonstrate your faith in God to have answers to your prayers. Read more”]Walking by faith gives you the opportunity to demonstrate the power of God to overcome problematic issues, clear obstacles and excel on this earth. Let us look at those who demonstrated the power of faith in God on this earth as we have it in the Bible:
- Jesus is our first example as it took great faith to do the things He did on the earth and also to go to the cross to die for the sins of the world
- Abraham and Sarah walked by faith to have the power to have the promised son at a very old age
- Noah walked by faith and used the faith power to build an ark even when he couldn’t clearly see the plans of God of rain falling on the earth
- Moses had to demonstrate great power in Egypt to get the Israelites released from slavery
- Moses also demonstrated power to part the Red Sea
- Paul and Peter and other disciples of Jesus demonstrated power to preach the gospel and also spread the gospel when Jesus went back to heaven. Paul said, “For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power” (1 Corinthians 4:20)
Section 2: A deeper explanation of what is faith?
I hope I have been able to give you a good definition of faith and I have also shown you why you must walk by faith. Now in this section, I will be going into the practical explanation of what is faith? I will be giving you practical examples from my life, from the Bible and from the lives of those I have researched.
Please remember the keywords from the definition of faith that I shared with you earlier on. I will be referring to them as I described practically this topic of, ‘What is faith.’
You can’t get it done on your own
Jesus said, “…without Me, you can do nothing” (John 15:5b). This Bible passage shows Jesus’ direct statement about His relevance to our ability to get things done on this earth. He says, very emphatically, that no one can succeed, get anything done, make any miracle, scale hurdles, crush obstacles without His help!
This Bible passage alone dazed me when I read it as a young Christian. I wondered why one single man would be so confident to announce to the whole world how no one can ever get anything done outside Him!
That was many years ago and I must confess that the Spirit of God has done so much to affirm this statement of Jesus and I am still learning more about it every day. I believe I will learn something new about it all the days of my life on this earth!
Substance and evidence of faith
Read this Bible passage again: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
And read it also in the Message translation of the Bible:
“The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd” (Hebrews 11:1-2) (MSG) (emphasis mine)
The passage shows that “this faith is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living”. If life will be worth it’s salt for you on this earth where you get things done or crush obstacles upon obstacles then you need this strong chord called faith to draw God’s power to do these things.
At this stage, let us do little grammar definitions so that we can have a clear picture of this section which holds the key to how you can begin to walk effectively by faith with God.
Substance is defined as: “The real physical matter of which a person or thing consists and which has a tangible, solid presence.”
What does this show you? Though a lot about Christianity and the Christian faith is spiritual since we have to believe the God that we can’t see and also His Words and promises that we can’t see physically yet. But it will always be necessary to take the faith process to the realm of physical representation whenever we have to obey God on a stubborn issue.
Faith is the ‘substance’ of things hoped for. That is, it is the process of using the physical matter of what we believe as a tangible representation of what we are trying to have faith in. I will share more information with you on this later in this post and I will refer you to this section again.
Now let us look at the definition of evidence. it is ‘The available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid.’
Faith is the evidence of things we do not see. Again, the faith walk is basically spiritual but you are supposed to belive God for what you have not seen physically so it is necessary you create evidence that will represent what you are believing God for. You will see practically the demonstration of this in our different case studies later in this post.

Section 3: My Faith Story
This section will even show a more practical explanation of what is faith and how to have faith in God completely as a Christian. It contains a case study of the Christian faith from my own personal experience. Please enjoy it.
My humble experience with faith
After four years of marriage, I and my wife were childless. My wife found it difficult getting pregnant. We tried every Godly solution that was available but nothing happened. We prayed every prayer possible and quoted every Bible passage possible but all to no avail.
The only results we were getting were God’s promises that we don’t have any problem and that He would give us children. We took the decision to take our faith walk to another level by purchasing baby materials and one of it was placed in our prayer room where we kept anointing it every now and then confessing the arrival of our baby in the process.
Faith tip: Can you recognize what we did there? the purchase of baby materials represented the ‘substance of what we hoped for and the evidence of the promises of God that we have not seen physically. We even went further to place them in our prayer room, confessing the arrival of our baby.
This did not bring the physical results that we expected. Now I never knew that God was waiting for the time we will make our faith fly so that we can learn one of the most profound lessons about faith in our Christian journey then.
[click_to_tweet tweet=”Read a practical faith story of a couple who were childless but obtained the promise of God through faith. Read more” quote=”Read a practical faith story of a couple who were childless but obtained the promise of God through faith. Read more”]The substance turned to faith confessions
On a fateful day, I was taking a walk and I spiritually sensed a message from the Holy Spirit which directed me to instruct our neighbors, friends, and relatives to call my wife by the name of the child that she wants to give birth to. I knew this message was from the Holy Spirit because I was not really thinking about that topic at that hour. Most importantly, I had never given a thought to such an idea before.
Well, all thanks to God for His grace, I passed the message across to my wife and we called together the children in the neighborhood and instructed them to call my wife by the name of the child she wants to give birth to since the Bible says that out of the mouth of babes and sucklings shall perfect praise come (Psalm 8:2 and Matthew 21:16). One of the children, an 11-year-old asked my wife where the child was and I responded that the name is for the child my wife will give birth to very soon.
Faith evidence filled the air
Trust children, they did a good job to promote this divine idea in the neighborhood and some of the adults joined to saturate our “spiritual environment” with this faith action. Three months after this episode, my wife conceived and safely delivered our first child nine months after!
This was a great testimony to me and to others who were close to us. It was also a big lesson for me on the topic of faith. I understood why the Bible says in Hebrews 11:3 “…so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible”.
Faith brings the spiritual into the physical
As Christians, our miracles, successes, and their likes rest in the spiritual, unseen to our physical eyes. The Bible says that God has “blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3). It is only our flying faith that can bring these blessings down from the spiritual to the physical.
Faith tip: Now your crawling, walking and running faith may be able to get you by and get some things done but you will be safe operating on the realm of flying faith to get very stubborn issues resolved on this earth. We crawled, walked and ran but did not get the required result until we took it to the flying stage.

Section 4: The Faith Chart
Let us build on what we have learned so far. I will be using a simple chart under this section and I am sure you will love it. please read on.
The Believe-Faith Chart
This is the believe-faith chart. As simple as it looks, it is a very useful tool that has helped me to understand what is faith and also to walk by faith completely. Let us look at what this chart has for you:
- From the simple chart above, we can observe that the first box level has the Word of God.
- This shows that the foundation of any flying faith is the Word of God.
- The second level is Believe. This is the first important reaction you must have to what the word of God says about any issue or problem that you want to solve.
- The Bible says that Abraham believed and it was counted for him as righteousness. You should note that the reaction at this level is usually a spiritual reaction.
- The word of God comes to you and you spiritually get yourself connected to it without questioning or doubting whether it will work or not.
- There are many factors that can help you to start having this type of reaction to God’s word on any issue. These factors will be discussed in a future report or post. Subscribe here.
- The third level is the Action level. This level is slightly different from the second level. This is where lots of Christians miss it.
- This third level should move out of the spiritual realm into the physical realm.
- This level is carried out when we begin to confess what we have believed and also take practical actions in line with what we have believed.
- For example, we began to confess the association of the name of our promised baby with the name of my wife even when there was nothing physical to show it.
- This third level can be a very “violent and dangerous” level. Most faith flyers discussed in this report were “violent” at this level.
- Miracle is the fourth and final level. This is the level when a physical solution arrives at that stubborn issue.
- Our baby came, exactly twelve months after we began to operate the third level.
Section 5: Examples of Faith Flyers
Section 5 of this post will show the great faith flyers as recorded in the Bible. This section is meant to prepare you for the next section and I want to also use it to get you inspired and fired up. If you are aware of the stories of people like you who have walked by faith successfully, you will also be ready to walk by faith. Please enjoy it.
Great Faith Flyers In The Society
Image by HAPPY NEW YEAR *** S. Hermann & F. Richter from Pixabay
We will be taking a critical look at some interesting individuals who took great faith steps in the Bible especially during Jesus’ time on the earth. The faith of these people was publicly acknowledged to be examples of flying faith by someone who is supposed to know – Jesus Christ.
Faith tip: I want you to note that these great faith flyers in the examples below were what I will call “spiritual nobodies”. They were not the priest of the time and they were not even one of the disciples of Jesus Christ before they took their faith actions. This should help you to understand that you can also, even at your present spiritual level, fly consistently with your faith.
The Centurion Dazed Jesus Christ
“Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented…” (Matthew 8:5-13)
This story has really helped me to get more understanding of how the Christian faith works. The man in this story was the most unlikely person to carry out a faith action the way we have it recorded in the Bible passage above.
From the account of this story, I understood through the help of the Holy Spirit that this centurion must have spent quality time to carry out secret or underground researches about the person of Jesus Christ before he took the decision to approach Him.
I want to believe that because of his status in society, he would not be able to publicly attend the crusades of Jesus but he must have positioned himself to listen to the testimonies of those who got their miracles through Jesus. He must have secretly asked some people to look for scriptural records of the messiah as revealed through the prophets.
This great man of faith must have carried out enough secret or underground studies that would have built enough faith in him to approach Jesus publicly, calling Him Lord and pleading with Him to come and heal his servant that was sick (Matthew 8: 5 and 6).
Faith tip: The simple truth from this story and my immediate explanation above is that walking by faith to please God consistently is not automatic! There is real work to be done in your closet in the areas of study and researches. The centurion did much of this and he demonstrated a faith that dazed our Lord Jesus!
I want you to also note that this man, being a soldier must have witnessed the death of many people at the battlefront and he should not be the one who will damn all consequences to look for a miracle to heal his servant through Jesus. However, he was so sure that Jesus is more than able to bring life into the body of his servant. Probably, he must have spent some time studying the account of prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 53:5 that says, “…and by His stripes we are healed”.
I want you to look at more interesting results of the diligent secret or underground studies of the truth about Jesus and His healing power by the centurion:
- “The Centurion answered and said, ‘Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof..’” (Matthew 8:8). He had found out that his righteousness is like a filthy rag and cannot get him a miracle from the Lord. Probably he had studied (Isaiah 64:6), “But we are like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags”.
- “…But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. For I am also a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” (Matthew 8:8b and 9)
The icing on the cake of his faith
This was the icing on the cake in this story. The Bible says in verse 10 that when Jesus heard this He marveled!
The centurion’s faith had been built up to a great height that he even gave an illustration to show Jesus why His spoken word can touch his servant at his home even without Jesus setting His foot there! Probably, this man had studied extensively the account of the Psalmist in Psalm 107:20 where it is written that “He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions”.
The faith illustration from the Centurion
We are now going to take a goodl look at the illustration he gave. Let me inform you that this illustration from this man of faith was a product of preparation. He must have carried out the whole process in his heart before he set out to approach Jesus.
This points to the fact that he already had a miracle for his servant in his heart before he approached Jesus. I am not surprised he got it at the end.
Now to the illustration:
- “For I am a man under authority…” (verse 9): This man understood that Jesus was able to do all the miracles because He was under the authority of His Father in heaven.
- Therefore, if he (the centurion), who was under an earthly authority, was so empowered to order around 100 soldiers, Jesus, also under the authority of heaven could order around demons behind any sickness!
- He believed that no man could do what Jesus was doing except he was under a powerful authority. Jesus also confirmed this in (John 5:31), “I can of myself do nothing. As I Hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek my own will but the will of the Father who sent me”
Faith tip: I am inspired to write this to you if you are yet to give your life to Jesus Christ in order for you to come under a powerful authority of heaven that will make you do exploits on this earth. You can see from the illustration of the centurion that you can’t be a miracle-working Christian if you don’t position yourself under the authority of heaven by confessing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
Jesus says in Luke 10:19: “…I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions….”. You can’t carry out this act if you are outside Jesus Christ. If you would like to confess Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, I want you to say the simple prayer below:
“Father in heaven, forgive my sinful past. I believe Jesus Christ died for my sins and His shed blood has wiped away my sins. I believe He is the Son of the Living God. I accept Him as my Lord and Saviour. I want Him to begin to rule in my life from now on. I believe I am saved. Thank you, God, for hearing my prayer”.
Please let me read from you if you have said this prayer above.
Now back to the analysis of the centurion’s illustration.
- “…and I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes and to another, ‘come’ and he comes…” (Matthew 8:9b): This man also understood the fact that Jesus is a commander on this earth (Well, you can’t operate under the authority of heaven without being a commander).
- He knew Jesus does not only command but His commands are effective – those who receive His commands must carry out His orders!
- Probably the centurion must have studied the account in Isaiah 9:6, “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulder…”.
- With the government on His shoulder, it showed He was in charge and could give orders.
Jesus’ response to the faith confession
Now let us look at Jesus’ response to this faith act of the centurion.
- “When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!” (verse 10).
- “Then Jesus said to the centurion, ‘Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you’” (verse 13).
- The flying faith of the centurion got a positive response from heaven and got his servant healed! (verse 13b).
The Woman With The Issue of Blood
“And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. For she said to herself, ‘If I may touch His garment, I shall be made well’. But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, ‘Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well” (Matthew 9:20-22)
I believe strongly that this woman’s story was another classic example of a flying faith that came as a result of earlier studies and preparations.
The Bible records that this woman had said if only she could touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, she would be made well. She had probably studied Isaiah 53:5 “…and by His stripes, we are healed…” and she had rehearsed how she would carry out her faith actions.
She knew it would be difficult to get to Jesus because of the crowd so she had earlier prepared her action plans. Just like the case of the centurion, she had her faith built up to a great height and she had her miracle already in her heart before she left her home!
Nothing could stop her from carrying out her prepared faith actions to obtain her miracle. The Bible says in Matthew 9:22 (quoted above) that this flying faith drew power from Jesus and He recognized this great touch!
I want you to note that Jesus’ response was the same as the one He gave to the centurion: “… your faith has made you well” (verse 22). God’s response to a flying faith is the same no matter who you are or the problem you want to solve. This great response always brings solutions to problems.
Bartimaeus The Blind man
We have other great cases of flying ‘faithers’ in the Bible. The recovery of the sight of Bartimaeus the blind man in Mark 10:46-52 was another case. Though he was blind, he had also probably listened to the testimonies of those who got their miracles from Jesus.
Therefore, when the opportunity beckoned on Him to meet Jesus, he shouted and shouted until Jesus stood still (Mark 10:49) and handed his miracle to him! He was persistent with his faith.
The Bible says when he heard that it was Jesus passing by, he knew the time was ripe to carry out his pre-planned faith actions. He shouted repeatedly at the top of his voice and called Jesus with the right name and title, “Jesus, Son of David…”. He also used the right word to ask for his miracles, “…have mercy on me”.
Just like I wrote earlier, this flying faith crushed the obstacles presented by the disciples of Jesus and stood Jesus still! Jesus gave him his miracles.
We have lots of examples in the Bible where people made their faith to fly to obtain their miracles, to get the attention of heaven or to do great exploits.
Faith tip: The common action steps of these flying faithers are that their faith flew to a great height to catch the attention of heaven to solve stubborn issues because they had studied diligently God’s truth about their problems and had taken time to rehearse how they would obtain their miracles. Also, they ended up carrying out their pre-planned actions.
Section 6: 11 Steps to walk by faith with God
The remaining part of this post will show you how you can begin to make your faith fly. Some of the tips will be taken from the revelations we have discovered from the stories above.
1. You must be born again
Image by Jody Davis from Pixabay
You will not be qualified to walk by faith with God. if you are not born of God. That is if you are not genuinely born again.
God is Spirit and those who must worship Him or relate with Him must do so in spirit (John 4:24). The book of Romans also says, “The Spirit of God bears witness with our spirit” (Romans 8:16). You cannot relate with a God who is Spirit and who is alive if you have a dead spirit and you walk in the flesh!
The faith walk or flight is majorly a spiritual one. You must, first of all, take the first simple step of faith in coming to God through Jesus Christ before you can begin to do other things with your faith. The Bible says that those who must come to God must know that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him diligently (Hebrews 11:6).
When you come to Him through Jesus to forgive your sins, you are demonstrating the first basic faith step everybody born into this earth must carry out. Remember that the centurion, the woman with the issue of blood and the blind Bartimaeus took the first step of approaching Jesus.
‘Dead’ spirit can’t walk by faith
If you don’t know this already, you have a ‘dead’ spirit if you are not born again. When Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, he single-handedly imputed sin into any man that will be born of man thereafter. But all thanks to God’s grace and mercy, Jesus, the last Adam came to the rescue of man; He died, shedding His blood in the process to wipe away our sin. This is the reason why the Bible says in (1 Corinthians 15:21-22):
“For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all died, even so in Christ all shall be made alive” If you have not said the salvation prayer earlier on as instructed in this post and you would like to do it now, please say it now from your heart:
2. You must be baptized In the Holy Spirit
“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:25)
Now if you truly want to walk with God by faith on this earth, you will need the help of the Holy Spirit – you can’t toy with this. Jesus says, “He (the Holy Spirit) will teach us and guide us into all truths” (John 16:13) (emphasis mine). These truths include showing us the truth from God’s word on that stubborn problem that we have to solve.
The flying faith actions in the examples above stood on the truths from the scriptures about who Jesus is. Matthew 3:11 says Jesus is the baptizer in the Holy Ghost. Sincerely ask Him in the place of prayer to baptize you with His Spirit. He will surely do so.
3. Diligent Word study
The solution to any problem lies in the Word of God. The foundation of any flying faith is the Word of God. There are miracles on the pages of the Word of God. When you study and digest God’s Word, you mature your spirit. He (your spirit) becomes more sensitive to problem-solving spiritual information that your faith can stand upon to get a miracle or to solve any problem.
Whenever there is a nagging problem, you should diligently consult the word of God. Don’t stop searching until you have found a truth that your faith can stand upon.
Schedule of Word study
You should have a prepared schedule of Word study. You will not be able to destroy the many obstacles from the pit of hell that would not want your faith to fly if you are not a consistent student of God’s word.
Just like I wrote earlier, the centurion gave an interesting illustration that got Jesus marveled, I believe he would not have done that if he had not been preparing or rehearsing his faith steps by gathering necessary information about who Jesus is.
I have an active Word study schedule. This documented or pre-planned schedule helps to keep me on track whenever I get so busy to leave out the diligent study of God’s Word for 48 hours. Now let me quickly point out that the Word study that I am talking about here is not the normal morning or evening devotional Word study; it is the deliberate and diligent study of God’s Word where you compare scriptures noting important truths for yourself, your ministry and other things the Spirit of God would point your attention to.
“For all His judgments were before me. And I did not put away His statutes from me” (Psalm 18: 22)
David wrote Psalm 18 when he got great victories over his enemies and Saul. In verse 22 of this Psalm (quoted above), he wrote one of his secrets – he sets God’s Word and commandments before himself consistently! We can learn one or two things from this. If you will ever fly with your faith to get results, you will need to diligently and consistently be a student of the Word of God.
Meditation in the Word
Now let me point out this before I leave this section of this report, one beautiful way whereby you can place God’s judgment or word in front of you all the time is when you meditate on the Word of God all through the day. We may not be able to open the Bible to read every period of the day but we can programme ourselves to think deeply on God’s Word all through the day. Even in the midst of discussions in our offices, we can just keep quiet and roll over the scriptures in our thoughts.
Remember that the Word of God in Joshua 1:8 actually says, “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night….”.
We are advised to meditate in it day and night. We are not asked to read and study the Bible day and night. God knew that it will be practically impossible to open the Bible to read and study every period in a day. However, deep thinking or according to Rick Warren in his book, Purpose Driven Life, focus thinking is possible all through the day.
Another quote from Rick Warren, in this same book, says, “When you pray, you speak to God but when you meditate, God speaks to you”. Flying faith stands on the word of God. God speaks to us when we roll over His Word in our mind during meditations. We can then readily and continually have His truths that we can hold on to walk with God with our faith on a consistent basis.
4. Other relevant researches
Apart from studying the Word of God from the pages of the Bible, you can also carry out researches on the ways of God or on any problem you want to solve through the following media:
- Anointed books: Go for books that address the problem area you want to solve at any moment.
- DVDs/Podcasts of sermons of anointed teachers of the word: You should also go out of your way to find materials of teachers or ministers who God has given a special grace on any problem you want to solve. For example, a single lady who is having a problem finding the right man for marriage should go for materials of teachers or ministers who have a ministry in this area.
- The internet: I have used the internet extensively to find out more Godly information about any problem I want to solve. Most great men and women of God now have an online presence. You should search out their websites online and visit them. You can also see whether they have articles on their websites or anywhere written on the topic you want information on.
- Mentors: You should also prayerfully look for a mentor or mentors. Look for someone who has recorded Godly results over the years. Write to them and request to meet them. If they organize programmes, make an effort to attend them. Sometimes, God has spoken through some of my God-chosen mentors to me whenever I am faced with a nagging problem.
- Exposure: This is another interesting research activities. I and my wife were surprised when we were informed by a counselor in my mentor’s church about how my mentor and his wife also waited for some years before they eventually got their first child. This revelation went a long way to assure us that God was able to solve our childless problem. If our mentor and his wife were able to get over the problem, we could too.
- Faith stories: You should make conscious efforts to read faith stories. There are some books in the market that talk about the lives and times of many faith walkers or faith flyers who have walked the surface of this earth. I love these types of books, they have gone a long way to help the health of my faith. If those men and women could get things done through faith in God and His Word, then I can too.
5. ‘Sit on the problem’
I once wrote an article titled ‘Period of Personal Preparation’ where I showed the relevance of creating the time to think on solutions to problems using the truths from the Word of God. I showed how the deep truths of God’s Word will make you react positively to and towards the problem until it is solved or you have had a miracle on it.
Most times, we have reacted negatively towards a problem because we have not really taken our time to “sit on it”. Your faith can receive a big boost to fly on that problem if you can find the time to think through on the problem using the Word of God as the basis of your solution thinking.
During this “sitting” exercise, you will be able to critically look at the problem and critically look at what the Word of God says about it. You will also, through the help of the Holy Spirit, discover the faith statements you must begin to make and also the faith actions you must begin to take during this exercise.
It is a highly rewarding exercise, especially when you use the Word of God as the basis and also you give the Spirit of God the opportunity to guide your thinking. This is also a form of mediation but you are deliberately carrying out this exercise to solve a specific problem.
6. Don’t neglect the power of prayer
Talk to God in the place of prayer regularly. When you talk to Him, He talks back if you give Him the chance to do so. His information, responses or instructions also add to your knowledge of Him, the nature of the problem you want to solve or want a miracle on and also what you can do to obtain a miracle on the problem.
Prayer should never be a one-way affair, in fact, I believe we have more to hear from God than what we want to say to Him. Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…”.
Most people just continuously talk away whenever they are praying. I believe this is because they have been so intimidated by their problems and because they have always desired magic from God concerning their problems.
We should be interested in what God has to say about a situation and also what He wants us to do about it, this is what our faith can stand upon and it is the beginning of our miracles on that stubborn problem.
His response helps your faith
God is not a magician, He is a miracle worker! I used to believe that the most useful thing for me during every prayer session is the amount of words I am able to direct at heaven.
However, experience has shown me that I must be a listening son most of the time during most of my prayer sessions. There was a time in my life when I became clueless about what to say again in prayer. I had lots of stubborn problems to solve and despite hitting heaven with my prayer request all the time, the problems failed to go away.
The Spirit of God made me understand that I must cultivate the habit of listening more during every prayer session. He pointed my attention to what Moses used to do during every meeting with God in the Bible – he always worshipped God by lying on the floor, stated his request and then listened all through.
How Moses listened and walked by faith
This Moses’ style went a long way to show me what Jesus does during the periods whenever He separated Himself to pray all night (Luke 6:12). We have more to hear from God than we have to say to Him. He has the methods that we can use to solve that nagging problem.
We won’t be able to receive these solution nuggets if we are not listening! I listened to God during my prayer session by pausing to listen to my spirit since the Spirit of God can only pass across information to me through my spirit (Romans 8:16).
I also spend quality time to study and meditate on His Word during every prayer session. Sometimes, I have paused during a prayer session to open my Bible to read any time I spiritually sense a Bible story or Bible passage in my spirit.
I have also tried to be spiritually sensitive during every worship session when I sing quality songs to God. This is a great period of “supernatural downloads’ from heaven because he inhabits our praise (Psalm 22:3).
There were times I have sensed a strong instruction from the Holy Spirit for me to keep quiet, sit down and write His thoughts even before starting a prayer session. Sometimes, I would try to disobey this nudge but I would eventually cooperate when the instruction becomes louder in my spirit.
The truth is that God sees and knows the nature of the problem we have even before we begin to pray unto him. The Bible says in Psalm 94:9-10, “He who planted the ear, shall He not hear? He who formed the eye, shall He not see? He who instructs the nation shall He not correct? God sees and knows your problems and He is ready to instruct you on the methods to use to solve the problems even before you approach Him in the place of prayer!
Faith lives on a Rhema you get through prayer
The examples of the faith flyers given above show individuals who through research into who Jesus is, had something to hold on to when they approached Jesus. A flying faith always has a Rhema (or revealed word) to hold on to.
Flying faithers don’t shake even when it appears the storms will take them to their grave! They look onto heaven and tell God that they are holding on to His revealed word to them about their situations despite all the knocks they are receiving from all angles. The faith walkers above damned all the consequences and approached Jesus speaking interesting faith statements that thrilled Jesus Christ.
When you pray, be sensitive to what God has to say. If it seems you can’t hear or see anything, open the Bible and read, He will speak to you from His Word.
7. Write what to do
The centurion finished his miracle story before he went to Jesus. His researches showed that it was only Jesus that could heal his servant so he held on to his findings and itemized the steps he would take to obtain his miracles.
Just like I mentioned above, you will observe that his actions and faith statements showed that of someone who had prepared well before his visit to Jesus. From my personal experience, I have observed the power behind my written steps for the completion of a project and my faith and strength to see the project to the end.
I want to help myself to be disciplined to carry out my written steps. The sight of the written steps helps my faith in the God method that I have used to prepare the action steps.
Write the vision
“And then God answered: ‘Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. This vision message is a witness pointing to what’s coming’”. (Habakkuk 2:2-3)(MSG)
This interesting idea helped me to fully understand the reason why God advised the prophet Habakkuk to write the vision out in big block letters. The prophet was to write it clearly, read and run continuously after it.
This shows that you have to write and put it in a place where you can constantly expose yourself to it in order to make your faith fly consistently on it. What you have been inspired to write out is a “witness pointing to what’s coming” (Habakkuk 2:3b).
My picture board helps my faith
I have strategically placed such written steps in my Bible so that I can always read them every time I want to study the Word of God. Some of these steps have also been placed on my ‘picture board’. My picture board is small cardboard where I put pictures of projects I want to complete or breakthroughs I am expecting.
This picture board is strategically placed at a visible position in my study room. The idea behind the picture board was picked up from the story in Genesis 15:5 and Genesis 30:35-43 where God made Abraham see stars before he could believe God’s promise to him and how Jacob placed peeled rods before flocks so that they can conceive before the rods.
What you see consistently will eventually become an obsession to you and you will eventually bring it forth or receive the miracle from heaven. So place your inspired written steps in a place where you can get yourself exposed to them on a daily basis. This will also go a long way to help your faith to fly on a regular basis.
8. Act immediately on your written steps
The centurion, the woman with the issue of blood, and Barthemeus the blind man took immediate actions on their plans to receive a miracle from Jesus. The centurion walked up to Jesus despite the fact that his standing in the society forbids such visit.
The woman with the issue of blood moved out of her house and went straight away to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment. Bartholomeus the blind man cried out at the top of his voice and refused to stop despite the many obstacles trying to stop him.
We can see from these examples that whatever you have planned to do, you must take the first step. It may even be by speaking the word of faith. Bartholomeus the blind man gave a faith cry onto Jesus. We (myself and my wife) asked the children in our neighborhood to call my wife with the name of the child she wants to give birth to.
Whatever it is, just kick-start the process leading to your miracle or success by doing it. The truth of the matter is that after this first seemingly insignificant step, every other thing will begin to flow along and will ultimately lead to your miracles.
I started ministry work this way. There was practically nothing to start with apart from God’s Word to me to start. I had my action steps documented and I began to take a series of first steps. I observed that the coast always become clearer any time I took these interesting steps.
9. Don’t mind obstacles
Image by Keith Johnston from Pixabay
I want you to look at the obstacles that tried to stop our above faith flyers:
- The centurion was a public officer who was not supposed to approach somebody like Jesus in a public place. Remember that even a religious officer went to Jesus at night because he couldn’t afford to visit Jesus during the day (John 3:1-3). This points to the magnitude of the obstacle the centurion buried by visiting Jesus publicly.
- The crowd that usually surrounded Jesus was really big trouble to the woman with the issue of blood. However, she was able to devise a strategy that would remove the obstacle. She took a decision to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment.
- The case of Barthemeus the blind man was an interesting one. One of the groups of obstacles that came against him was that of the disciples of Jesus! They asked him to stay off Christ (Mark 10:40-42)! This faith walker was also blind. However, he used the power of his voice to get Jesus’ attention.
I have come to understand that most times, there are always oppositions to every miracle, every successful result and every new level we will attain in life. Obstacles will always be thrown at us from the pit of hell against our faith flight, we don’t have to mind them! We must also not get scared of them. Instead, we must study them and prayerfully look for ways to crush or climb over them.
I believe that the presence of obstacles were never meant to stop your faith from flying. A flying faith is designed scripturally to stop obstacles.
The presence and magnitude of obstacles help the height at which your faith must reach during its flight. The higher you go with your faith to solve problems, the more powerful you become as a Christian! Those who cry and lose hope when they see obstacles can never be faith flyers.
Faith flyers are those who smile when obstacles come knocking at their door. Heaven loves this latter set and is ever ready to supply faith-building information to this set.
10. Keep yourself wet always
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me…” (Matthew 11:28-29)
The statement above is an invitation from Jesus Christ. He is asking you and I to come to Him by casting our burden on Him. He is also asking us to continually learn from Him in order to continually have the capacity to handle stubborn issues.
You don’t learn from Christ today and stop doing it – you will need to learn from Jesus every day to keep your faith flying regularly. It is an everyday walk with Him. Jesus is an everyday friend – a friend you must learn from and talk to every day. He has the capacity to hear and teach everybody on this earth at the same time! If he says without Him we can do nothing (John 15:5b), then it is wise if we plan our daily activities to learn from Him on a daily basis.
We all know that birds fly with their wings, let us assume immediately a bird flew into the sky, its wings were chopped off in the air, what do you think will happen to the bird? It will be unable to maintain its flight in the sky and would eventually drop to the ground.
If you will ever be a consistent faith flyer, you will need to constantly keep yourself ‘wet’ all the time by exposing yourself to the truths from God’s Word. Just like I mentioned above, have a timetable or schedule of studying the Bible – you can’t do well as a Christian if you are not a Word-study addict!
11. Avoid faithless environment
“When Jesus came into the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing, He said to them, ‘Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping’… But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand and the girl arose” (Matthew 9-25)
The scene above is a good example of a faithless environment. I am not surprised Jesus kept them out before He could raise the dead girl.
You will need to keep off faithless environment if you will ever fly consistently with your faith. If you have a friend who does not speak or act faith, stop visiting him and stop keeping company with him. Maintain a distant relationship with such friends.
There were some places I stopped my wife from visiting when we were waiting for the fruit of the womb. There was a friend I stopped visiting when I noticed he does not speak faith every time we had discussions.
Christianity and faith walk or flight is a serious business – it is a matter of life and death! (Deuteronomy 30:15). It is the only way you can please God to have Him intervened concerning that stubborn issue.
God created the heaven and the earth in Genesis and rested and thereafter handed over to the faith of the man to create other things. I am not surprised Jesus always informed most of the people who received miracles from Him that their faith had made them whole.
Flee from all appearance of evil. A faithless environment has all the characteristics of evil – therefore keep away from it with all you have got!
